About

Fresh, and passionate writing

The following is a short article I wrote:

The other day I was at a stop light after leaving a Quick Trip and there was a man with his dog standing holding a sign. The sign read, “Homeless, God Bless You.” He had a cap on his head, and wearing jeans that were loose, could not see the shirt he was wearing due to he had a jacket on. His had curly blond hair, which look as though like the rest of him had not been washed in a while. He stood erect focusing ahead, holding the sign precisely in front of his chest. It reminded me of people who are picking up someone at the airport so when they got off the plane they would hold a sign with the person’s name on it. There was pride in the man standing on the corner as he held his sign. His dog lay loyal to him at his feet. At first, I avoid giving this man any indication that I was looking toward him. And although it was not because of fear, it was a message to me of “self-effacement.” There are so many things I have taken for granted and did not appreciate in my life. Instead of being thankful, I complained it seemed about everything. I complained about what I lack, and do not embrace my riches…life. I gave the man what monies I had about a $1.50. He responded, “God Bless You.” The light turned green, and as I drove away, tears appeared in my eyes. I knew the man gave me something worth more than a $1.50 he gave me gratitude. When I drive by where he stands I smile at him, and say, “God Bless You, thank you.”
