Data Scientist | Statistical Data Analysis | GIS and Remote Sensing

Hailing to a rural family, it was my deepest desire to help my people who work and harvest in fields and provide blood and muscles to the country's agro-based economy. I grew up in a village, most of my childhood spent in an abode surrounded by crops and livestock, which made me realize the complexities faced by the farming community to manage their agri-business. My curiosity about agriculture is a natural inclination; inherited from my forefathers. Therefore, I joined the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan, a prestigious institution for agricultural studies and completed my B.Sc. (Hon’s) in Agriculture in 2012 and later M.Sc. (Hon’s) in Plant Pathology in 2014.

During my Master’s degree, I won Fulbright scholarship (a flagship scholarship program of the U.S. Department of State) for Ph.D. and joined Iowa State University in 2015. My Ph.D. research focused on quantifying soybean yield losses due to soybean sudden death syndrome diseases and its early detection through remote sensing. Besides Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, I also completed a graduate certificate in Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing at Iowa State University. I graduated in 2019 and returned to Pakistan and started working as an independent researcher and consultant as a data scientist.

Currently, I am collaborating with various research groups based in the U.S. and Brazil and leading the statistical data analysis of several big datasets. My future interests are in unraveling the hidden potential of remote sensing to resolve modern-day problems in agriculture, especially to study and map various aspects of economically important plant diseases. And for this purpose, I have equipped myself with cutting-edge experimental and analytical skills and I am enthusiast to employ the innovative and creative developments in artificial intelligence, especially machine learning and deep learning to analyze the complex and massive datasets obtained from satellites.
