August 16th: This date may be known as the day Elvis died, on this day in the year 1976 (just one year before Elvis’ passing), Serena Edwards came into the world. Born into a poverty-stricken family, she grew up in a small town north of Charlotte, North Carolina.
In this small, suburban town, Serena found herself singing and learning Bible stories in her grandfather’s myriad of church plants throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and finally, North Carolina.
However, it was during her college years at a small Christian university that Serena found she had a love for “Contemporary Christian” music…as well as books, movies, and videos in the Christian genre. In college, she served an internship in Nashville, Tennessee for her Journalism & Religion majors. During this time, she wrote articles, newsletters, web content, and reviews on a variety of Christian media.
Over the past 15 years, Serena has continued to hone her skills at both writing and designing at such companies as a Christian radio & television production company and a Christian media company. During the last eight years, she took over the marketing at a family-owned preschool, developing the company’s first Website and Facebook page. She also designed and wrote their brochures, newsletters, and fliers for each of three educational programs.
Serena currently works as a freelance copywriter, specializing in the Christian market, specifically in the Business to Business realm (B2B). “It was in college when I realized Christian media is my passion,” Serena says. “Besides that, I’ve always wanted to be a writer, from the time I was in grade school writing poetry and short stories in my bedroom! Now I’ve married these two passions together into my dream career.”
