There is no greater motivation for me than seeing something work when before it did not, although the gratitude of a satisfied client come a very close second.

I spent over 5 years working for a local online games company, developing web systems to do various things for their web sites, where I met a lot of amazing people and learnt a great deal about working with technical and non-technical people.

In that time I have mentored new developers, designed systems, implemented very low level solutions to many problems and even got to make some small changes to the game's rendering code. It did both my technical and soft skills a world of good and I am very glad to have worked there.

The environment was very demanding from a time perspective so I have taken over a year away to freelance and get some time and energy back. My aim is to keep my hand in as much as possible and to keep my modest costs covered. I also enjoy the freedom of freelancing. When I get stuck on a problem, as we all do from time to time, I can pause, go for a stroll, come back and work some more without feeling any guilt as I charge by the hour.

These days I spend my off-time reading, walking, playing boardgames and donating my time to worthy causes (e.g. volunteering with local organisations).

Work Terms

I am available for work 09:00 to 18:00 GMT weekdays and open to special arrangements at slightly increased rate outside those times.

Once initial contact has been made here I prefer to use email chains or instant messenger chat rather than voice calls so that I can use the logs to keep a record of all features discussed.

I bill for my work by the hour and expect payment within a week but am open to other arrangments that suit you better. Late payment is subject to a £40 GBP statutory fine and interest on late invoices is the statutory 8.0% (+ current level of inflation set by the Bank of England) APR as per UK regulations.

I may offer freebies at my discretion and often do.
