Amazon introduces a prescription medicin

$5/hr Starting at $25

The business claimed that $5 per month could pay for a number of drugs, including the antibiotic amoxicillin and the pain reliever naproxen.

Amazon is expanding its expanding health care business by introducing a prescription drug savings program.

The retail behemoth announced on Tuesday that it will introduce RxPass, a subscription service for Prime subscribers. According to Amazon, customers will pay $5 per month to fill as many prescriptions from a list of approximately 50 generic pharmaceuticals, which are typically less expensive equivalents of brand-name drugs, as they require.

The business said that a number of drugs, including the antibiotic amoxicillin and the anti-inflammatory medicine naproxen, may be covered by the flat charge.

The list also included sildenafil. Under the brand name Viagra, it is used to treat erectile dysfunction as well as a specific type of high blood pressure.

Amazon's pharmacy service offers a variety of generic medications for purchase. For a 30-day supply, some already cost as little as $1, thus the value of this new program would differ depending on the customer.

People who have government-funded Medicaid or Medicare coverage are ineligible for the program because it does not use insurance. At debut, it will be accessible in 42 states and Washington, D.C.

Any initiative that expands access to low-cost generic medications for patients "is a positive thing," according to economist Karen Van Nuys of the University of Southern California, who researches drug pricing. She did, however, add that she was unsure of the extent of the impact that RxPass will have.

She stated that only Amazon Prime members are eligible for the service. The Mark Cuban CostPlus Drug Company, among others, sells more generic medications, many of which are priced under $5.
