During my studies at Chester University, I developed my ability to use Microsoft office packages mostly through various forms of University coursework such as PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Publisher etc. I used RStudio to understand how variables influenced each other when exploring the distribution of Mexican parrots for my masters' coursework. To identify differences between variables, I created quantile-quantile plots, generated boxplots, conducted a Welch Two Sample t-test and a Pearson correlation test to evaluate the strength of relationships between variables. Findings were divided into categories of parrots present or absent and were plotted on a map created in RStudio along with DIVA-GIS spatial data. For my master's dissertation, I conducted a desk study investigating the influence of predators and sea surface temperature on blue mussel populations across UK during 2005 and 2015. I used Excel to clean and organize large datasets, identified relationships between variables using RStudio, generated maps in QGIS, after which, visualize important relationships using the excel pivot chart functions. To expand my use of R programming, I enrolled in a data science course to better understand the concepts of data science. I believe that this desire to continue learning will allow me to excel in this role. My roles at the Careers and Employability Department have led to my enthusiasm and practice in strategic planning. As a student ambassador in 2017, I was part of a team that investigated the causes of non-engagement with the department's programs, resulting in thought-provoking trends that the department could address. In 2019, I was assigned a project to understand the opinions of our students about the term "career guidance" to assess if the program needed to be renamed to increase engagement. To produce effective results, I familiarized myself with previous research which investigated changes of student engagement based on varying names of guidance appointments. I then moderated a focus group which captured feedback from our students to help achieve the goals of my project. Through the focus group, I found themes that led me to suggest modifying the phrase "career guidance" as statistics have shown that if the program sounds less formal, students are more comfortable engaging in guidance appointments. The Head of Department sent a feedback email praising my research to let me know that "career guidance" was renamed "career conversations" to sound more inviting to students.
