Developmental editing

$25/hr Starting at $100

Developmental editing of a fiction manuscript or memoir. I will read your entire manuscript and offer comprehensive suggestions on plot, character, voice, tone, and any other overarching issues that may be preventing your book from being the best it can be. I will also comment on RECURRING grammatical errors, overused phrases and sentence structures, etc, but will not proofread or copy edit your manuscript as a part of this service. (I am happy to do a copy edit AFTER you have made the developmental and structural changes, and often do multiple rounds with the same client.) I will return the original manuscript with inline comments, as well as a detailed editorial letter. Developmental editing is ideal for writers who know that their current draft is not going to be the final one, who know that something isn't quite working but need some detailed feedback from a professional on what isn't quite right... and how to make it even better! It may also be helpful for writers who are getting requests from agents or publishers which are resulting in vague rejections. Let me work with you to figure out what's giving the industry pause, and work with you to turn those form letters into a yes! I am happy to work with indie/self-publishing authors as well as those planning to query agents or submit to small presses. Whatever your publishing path, I'd love to work with you to help you reach the most important people--your readers!
