EXCLUSIVE: M&S confirms news on prices

$25/hr Starting at $25

Marks and Spencer has confirmed its price lock campaign is being extended until early July, in welcome news for shoppers as the cost of food continues to spiral

Marks and Spencer has extended its price lock on over 100 items until this summer, including fresh food and household essentials.

The refreshed list of products includes British White Mushrooms (300g – £1), Select Farms Easy Peeler satsumas (750g - £2) and Granny Smith Apples (four for £2).

Other items that will stay the same price until around early July are Medium Egg Noodles (250g - £1.15) and Washing Up Liquid (£1).

The news will be welcomed by supermarket shoppers after food inflation hit 18.3% in February.

The price lock campaign had been due to end after Easter, having been extended several times previously.

It sits alongside the M&S Remarksable Value budget range, which was launched in 2019 and includes over 100 everyday staples.

M&S says all its Remarkable items are price benchmarked against key competitors “to guarantee the best value for customers”.

Some of the products included in the range are Vitamin-D enriched Super Soft Wholemeal Medium Sliced Bread (800g – 85p), Tuna Chunks in Spring Water (160g - £1.10) and Corn Flakes (500g – 85p).

Alex Freudmann, managing director at M&S Food, said: “Listening to customers right now, value remains firmly top of the list.

“That’s why our priority is delivering our trusted value promise – offering the best possible quality at the best possible price.

“By extending our price lock until summer, we’re giving customers certainty on the products they love to shop. At the heart of our trusted value promise remains our Remarksable value range.

“Customers shopping our Remarksable products can be confident each is price benchmarked against key competitors but still sourced to the highest standards. We’ll never compromise on that.“

Meanwhile, M&S has released its latest Family Matters Index, which revealed 61% of households have cut back on eating out since the start of the year, with 58% also scaling back on takeaways.

The supermarket has seen a huge increase in sales across its Dine In deals over the last few months, and has sold almost half a million Steak Night offers since it launched in November.

The Steak Night Dine In includes one main, one side and one sauce for £10, serving two people.

Mr Freudmann said: “Customers are also looking to M&S to help make those family meals together more special, and more affordable. Our Dine In is all about that – restaurant quality food at a fraction of the price.

“We’re determined to offer families a rotating menu of Dine Ins that excite the whole family, whether it’s a Friday Pizza Night or a Tex Mex Tuesday.”

M&S serves around 30 million customers in the UK.
