Hussein Emir Abdullahiyan, the foreign minister of Iran, spoke on the phone with Antonio Guterres, the UN secretary general, today.

Regarding the meeting, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the following statements:

Hussein Emir Abdullahiyan, the foreign minister for Iran, and Antonio Guterres, the secretary-general of the United Nations, spoke about recent events in Yemen, Afghanistan, Syria, and Ukraine, cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, the status of talks to lift sanctions against Iran, and other regional and global issues.

He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran opposes the conflict in Ukraine and expressed his wish that the parties would return to the path of negotiation, that the conflict would end, and that peace would be established for all.

"UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres characterized Iran as an important country in the region and welcomed the revival of diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran, saying that this development could be the start of strengthening constructive relations in the region."
