Skyscrapers in the Manhattan region

$30/hr Starting at $25

In a study that was published in the journal of the organization Advancing Earth and Space Science (AGU), the impact of skyscrapers on the geological structure of the city was investigated, particularly in the Manhattan area.

According to the study, the density of skyscrapers in some areas of New York City, home to more than 8 million people, causes the sea level to rise by one to two millimeters annually.

The report noted that while the collapse in question was minor in scope, it made the city more susceptible to natural disasters and issued a warning that "as coastal cities grow globally, increased construction intensity and sea level rise mean increased flooding hazards."

According to the study, some locations in Brooklyn and Queens, as well as the bottom portion of Manhattan Island, are the most vulnerable to flooding.

Detailed visual pictures of the collapse seen in New York from satellite data were also included in the research, which calculates the mass of all structures in New York and models the collapse brought on by the pressure they exert on the Earth.
