WebGL Graphics Engineer (Full Stack) and

$100/hr Starting at $2K

Hello, and thank you for checking out my profile! I'm an Irish full-stack web and graphics engineer (8+ years experience), currently living in Vietnam. I specialize in responsive front-end development using WebGL, three.js, modern (ES6+) JavaScript, and React. My preferred CSS framework is Tailwind. Sometimes like to dabble in Svelte.js. I'm the author of a book on three.js called Discover three.js - check out my portfolio below for the link. I'm also one of the main contributors to the three.js project, with over 250 merged pull requests. My focus is on improving interoperability between the web and 3D applications such as 3DS Max, Blender, Maya, Lightwave, and Cinema4D, and as part of this goal, I'm the author and maintainer of the three.js loaders for Autodesk FBX and Lightwave LWO formats. I also wrote a large portion of the three.js docs and have contributed several of the official examples, which you can see in the links below. Recently, I've discovered the joys of working with React-three-fiber and this is now my preferred way to create three.js applications. I can provide 3D modeling (including rigging and character animation) and graphic design services, with extensive expertise in Photoshop and 3D Studio Max, and working knowledge of Blender, Lightwave3D, and Maya. The bulk of my experience is in working with digital twin architectural models, and I am frequently given very high detail models that need to rebuilt for display on the web. My favorite project in this area was a model of the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York, which, again, you can see in my project links below. I have also worked with models as diverse as medically accurate beating hearts, educational robots (hello Nao bot!), and photorealistic human faces containing hundreds of motion-capture facial animations. On the back end, I have extensive experience with Node.js, Django, and Next.js, as well as build tools such as WebPack, Parcel, Rollup, and ESBuild, and I maintain a DigitalOcean droplet running Nginx where I host my own projects, serving up to 100k requests a month. While I prefer to focus on front-end work, I will be able to understand and help you with the entire stack of a modern web app. When I'm not glued to the computer I like to dabble in the circus arts - I use to be a professional fire dancer and stilt walker, and I still maintain my skills to dazzle and surprise friends at parties.
