Data, I think, is one of the most powerful mechanisms for telling stories. I take a huge pile of data and I try to get it to tell stories.
I have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mathematics, and a Master’s degree in Information Technology. Basically, I was trained and worked as a mathematician before I took up my masters in IT. This training helped me to understand the theoretical foundations of data science.
My mathematical background motivated me to appreciate the study of machine learning, statistics, optimization, data structures, analysis of algorithms, data mining, and other major aspects of data science. Training in mathematics greatly assisted me to solve complex problems in data science. Hence, the theoretical or mathematical aspects of data science predominantly drive me to pursue my carrier in data science.
I want to begin my new career by translating a business case into an analytics program, developing hypotheses, and understanding data as well as exploring patterns to measure what impact they will have on businesses. I want to create ways to use statistical data as well as develop tools to help further analyse the data.
As an analyst, I feel that my greatest strengths are being able to analyse data using machine learning techniques with strong mathematics knowledge and problem-solving skills.
