I was born and raised in the ever-bustling city of Lagos, Nigeria, where the streets hum with energy and ambition is woven into everyday life. For 17 years, I called this home before setting off to pursuing a degree in International Relations at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Like everyone else, I had my plans all mapped out. But then came 2020,the year that rewrote the rules. The world hit pause, and life as we knew it shifted overnight. Suddenly, the things we once took for granted, security, routine, certainty became fragile. Businesses shut down, jobs became uncertain, and the definition of "normal" changed completely.
I was just a student at the time, stuck at home with nothing but time on my hands. One day, I stumbled upon an online course, a simple distraction, or so I thought. Little did I know, it was the spark that would ignite a whole new path for me.
That same year, I came across a word that would shape my future: Freelancing.
Something about the idea fascinated me. The freedom to work from anywhere, the ability to create my own opportunities, and most importantly, the flexibility to balance work with my health, it all just clicked. I dove deep, learning everything I could, and by 2021, I had launched my freelancing career.
I juggled it alongside my studies, building skills, gaining experience, and navigating the ever-evolving digital world. Today, I’m a BSc graduate, proud of how far I’ve come, and excited for where the road ahead leads. I plan to further my education while continuing to grow in the world of freelancing because, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that our paths are never set in stone.
