Educational Writer

$20/hr Starting at $25

An avid reader, I developed a love of literature at a very early age, inspiring me to read and write as frequently as possible. Nine years spent as a qualified primary school teacher have fostered my keen interest in educational works and resources for ages 3-12 in particular. In 2017, I embarked upon an action research project regarding the importance of promoting oral language in order to improve reading and writing in young children. This project sparked a further interest in educational research and it was this, along with a desire to keep on top of the latest educational trends, that led me to create an educational blog, The Inquisitive Educator, in early 2021. I have found this to be the perfect way for me to combine my passion for writing with becoming a reflective practitioner, writing both semi-formal blogs and reviews of educational books. Samples are available via the website www.theinquisitiveeducator.com, and I have included two samples below.

I am comfortable writing about, and catering for, a variety of educational issues and topics, in both semi-formal and professional styles. These include, but are not limited to:

- Mathematical Mastery

- STEAM

- Curriculum-based teaching

- The Importance of Oral Language

- Mindfulness

- Special Educational Needs

- Educational Leadership

- Home-School Relationships

- Teaching in the Early Years

- Learning Through Play

In addition to writing, I have been proofreading, editing and writing in both an unofficial and professional capacity for over ten years. After teaching the complex details of grammar, punctuation and general writing to hundreds of pupils over the years, many of whom had English as a second language, I am well-versed in how to make a piece of writing mechanically perfect, whilst ensuring first-rate structure, style and readability. My scope of work ranges from academic theses, to job applications, blogs, and more. I am proficient in working with a variety of style guides, both in British and American English. My love of reading and penchant for grammar makes proofreading and editing more than a job—it is a passion! It also helps to improve my own written work. Samples of my editing work are available via my freelance alias, Great Annotations (www.greatannotations.com).

My diligence, attention to detail and excellent organisational skills mean that I can work to tight deadlines, working with a variety of clients and colleagues calmly and patiently. Having grown up in Northern Ireland, before moving to London and Barcelona, I am familiar with a range of cultures and languages, and this diversity helps to inform my written and editorial work. An accomplished European Spanish speaker, I am also open to working in this language. I am flexible and have a wide area of interests, so I will always welcome a writing or editing challenge, and am excited to expand my portfolio into different areas.
