EVENTS MANAGEMENT

Jeanne has been involved with trade shows all over the world starting in 1993. Her trade show experience started by selling off a custom modular booth and using the funds to purchase a Skyline modular booth that enabled 9 sqm - 18 sqm booth spaces in a variety of configurations. The cost savings from not having to store the pre-existing modular components and drayage costs enabled us to leverage more promotional activities at the shows increasing leads by 40% on average. That money was used to produce a "Object Oriented Programming Terminology" book which was updated between each show. Software professionals flocked to our booth to get the latest version. We averaged approximately six shows per year. I have fought with Teamsters holding my booth materials hostage, had to be creative when show materials and staffers failed to show up, as well as ensuring all attendees had a positive experience with our organization. As a conference planner, Jeanne worked on speaker selection, creating selection criteria and a judging panel for the Data Processing Professionals Group's annual conference in Newport, RI, USA in 1994. The following year, she managed the public relations, showcasing the speakers, agenda, and creating a direct mail program that sold out the conference that year. At Lycos, we did an actual six week road tour, sending a van across the country showcasing Tripod.com and showing people how to build personal home pages. I was responsible for selecting route, stop locations, marketing these stops online, selecting promotional give-aways, travel and hotel arrangements for staff, and reporting "from the road" including daily reports from the traveling staff with photos. More than one million new home pages were built as part of this program. After moving to India, I personally supervised the build and strike of custom booths ranging from 9 sqm to well over 900 sqm on five continents for a telecom consortium of more than six companies. I personally designed all show floor plans in conjunction with subcontractors who build out the vision. I have been an exhibitor, conference planner, speaker, floor supervisor, booth designer, overseer of booth builds and strikes, negotiator and problem solver, along with staffing scheduler, travel and logistics manager, securer of booth vendors, caterers, translators and other services. These booths were incredibly complex, requiring kitchen pantries catering for a minimum of 60 Indian vegetarian lunches per day along with a hidden cafeteria. We also served local and Indian bar snacks along with a full bar, bottle service, small office, multiple meeting rooms and product displays. Many shows also involved press launches of new products and companies in new regions, which sometime also included translating of all sales literature and signage. During my tenure at Shyam, through best practices and proactive planning, I managed to decrease the average cost per square meter from $1,863 to $431 by second year.
