I am Alexis Gaitan, a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer and the founder of PanamaDev, a software studio based in Panama. For years I have done one thing with focus: build custom web platforms that help real businesses run and grow, from the user interface down to the database, the API and the deployment.
I have delivered 50+ production systems: e-commerce stores, web apps, client portals, CRM and ERP systems, REST and GraphQL APIs, and automation that removes manual work. Some of them stream audio and video 24/7, where downtime is not an option. On the backend I work in Python, Django, Django REST, FastAPI and Node.js; on the frontend in React, Next.js, Vue 3 and Angular with TypeScript and Tailwind; on PostgreSQL and MySQL, deployed with Docker, Nginx and Linux.
What I care about is software that is fast and intuitive today and still clean and maintainable years from now, not a demo that breaks the moment it meets the real world. I would rather scope a project honestly and start small than overpromise. When you work with me there is no handoff chain and no account manager in the middle: you talk directly to the engineer building your software, you see weekly testable progress, and you get one partner who owns the UI, the API, the database, deployment and support.

Work Terms
Hours of operation
I am based in Panama (UTC-5) and work Monday to Friday during business hours, with strong overlap across the Americas and Europe's morning. I am responsive on Guru messaging throughout the day and flexible to schedule calls when needed.
Payment terms
I work through Guru SafePay (escrow) so funds are secured before I start. Fixed price with clear milestones for well-defined projects; hourly for ongoing or evolving work. Larger projects are split into milestones funded in SafePay as we progress. Minimum engagement is typically 250 USD, and I am happy to start with a small first task so you can see how I work before committing to more.
Communication style
Clear and direct, in plain language, no jargon walls. You talk to the engineer doing the work, not a middle layer. Expect weekly progress you can test, prompt replies during the working week, and honest scoping: if something is a bad idea or out of scope, I will say so. I work comfortably in both English and Spanish.
