Hi, I’m Bárbara Sá Arrazaba — a marine biologist, researcher, ocean literacy advocate, and social media/projects manager. My love for the sea began at age five, when I first visited Zoomarine in southern Portugal. I wanted to be a mermaid, but quickly realized the closest I could get was through science — and that’s how I became a biologist.
For over 12 years, I’ve combined field and lab research with science communication and environmental education, specializing in marine biodiversity, microplastics, and sustainable fisheries. I thrive on turning research into real-world impact, collaborating with communities and international partners to promote sustainable oceans and informed decision-making.
I’m a mom, a wife, and an older sister, and I bring the same curiosity, creativity, and dedication to my family as I do to my work. I love to dive, hike, and explore nature, and I’m endlessly curious — always reading fantasy books, discovering new music, and learning something new every day.
At my core, I’m driven by a simple mission: to combine science, education, and outreach to protect our oceans and inspire others to care for them.
Work Terms
I am available for professional consultations, project collaborations, and meetings Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Portugal time, GMT+0, WET). If you need to reach me outside these hours, feel free to send a mail, and I will respond as soon as possible.
I accept bank transfer or other agreed methods.
I prefer keeping communication clear, friendly, and efficient. My preferred methods are:
- Mail is best for detailed updates or sharing documents.
- Phone or video calls are great for brainstorming, project discussions, or quick check-ins.
I usually respond within 24–48 hours on business days.
My goal is to make every project smooth, transparent, and enjoyable, so we can focus on creating impactful results together.
